Scissors over comb

You are here:Male Cuts - Scissors over comb

Scissors over comb is used to create close-cut, defined shapes in short, cropped hair. The technique is generally used in men's hairdressing to create a look that tapers in at the nape and side areas. The hair is cut short in the nape and gradually increased in length towards the occipital or crown area, depending on which style the client has chosen. The shape of the cut can be blunted or the ends softened by using either cutting or thinning scissors over the comb. The comb is used to lift the hair up, usually starting at the nape or side area. Accurate use of the comb is important as it guides the scissors and helps to shape the cut. The scissors-over-comb action should be fairly fast to prevent steps forming in the haircut.
